  3. A Camaro by any other color still a Camaro

    Herald-Times, Bloomington, Ind.
No need to wonder if anyone reads my column to the very end. Validation came Monday from reader Bob Weaver, although he may have stopped after paragraph 10 last week, where I made a pretty big mistake. "I hate to be the one that breaks the news to you,"...

  7. Hooked on trout

From my view knee deep in the river, real food looked like this: A swift current charged down Utah's Weber, and beyond the stream bright yellow alfalfa, and beyond that a reservoir holding sun-stunned water from the immense snowmelt two seasons ago. It was a blue-ribbon stream, three thousand brown trout per river mile. A teasing impression of plenty.

  9. There's no pinning this guy down

Billy Corgan wears many hats. He's the singer/songwriter for The Smashing Pumpkins. He is a poet and owns a tea shop (Madame Zuzu's in Highland Park). And, since 2011, he has been the self-described creative director for Resistance Pro wrestling. Corgan orchestrates storylines for monthly events that blend wrestling and entertainment. The following is an edited version of a conversation with Corgan.

  13. Dream home: Renovated home gathers family to the farm

When hearth and home — together with a growing family and an onsite family business — are at the center of day-to-day living, a small and dated one-story farmhouse in Ellicott City begins to burst at the seams. To keep their extended family under one roof while preserving the one-bathroom house built in 1954, the Harbin and Taylor families found the only solution was to build additions.

    — A sun-fest it was not.

  17. Do you feel the need to seed?

Gardeners are usually thought of as a rather patient group. We plant little seeds or small trees and shrubs and then have to wait for weeks, months or even years to get the benefit of a harvest, flowers or shade. But, that is not usually the case when...

  23. Second time's the charm

Leftovers — like whatever's in that green jar near the back of the third shelf — can be a dreaded fridge-horror specter past their prime as soon as they hit the Tupperware. But oh, those beautiful exceptions! Beef bourguignon, lamb stew, posole, chili — there are lots of soups, stews and slow-cooked braises that really do taste better after they've had a cooling stay in the fridge followed by reheating and second-day service.
