  1. ESPN's Lindsay Czarniak makes broadcast history at Indy 500

    The Orange County Register
Being the first female host of the Indianapolis 500 isn't as big a deal as, say, being the first black president. Or the first active gay athlete in one of the four major pro sports. It's still a significant milestone, however, especially when you...

  3. Horsemen search for deals at post-Preakness sale

On the Wednesday and Thursday before the Preakness, as excitement built for the middle jewel of the Triple Crown,<strong> </strong>many trainers and owners slipped away from <a href=&quot;http://findlocal.baltimoresun.com/pimlico/home/na/pimlico-race-course-baltimore-venue">Pimlico Race Course</a> and drove eight miles north on Interstate 83 to look a year into the future.

  7. Sun's Derby/Preakness coverage was top notch

Kudos to The Sun for the abundant coverage of horse racing during the lead up to the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. It's been a lot of years since The Sun has provided that level of coverage. While the number of stories has been high, the quality of the articles was equally as strong, particularly those written by <a href=&quot;http://bio.tribune.com/ChrisKorman">Chris Korman</a>. He uncovered angles and stories that made for compelling reading and were hard to put down. Ditto the ones written by <a href="http://bio.tribune.com/JeanMarbella">Jean Marbella</a> and <a href="http://bio.tribune.com/ChildsWalker">Childs Walker</a>. The Maryland horse racing industry is on the upswing. My hope is that The Sun continues to increase its coverage of this important industry in our state.

  11. Lukas secretly thought Oxbow was best hope for Preakness win

    D. Wayne Lukas may seem to the public an unlikely candidate to be one of the most hands-on trainers working in horse racing today. He shows up on television &mdash; like Saturday, when his horse Oxbow cruised to a win in the 138th Preakness &mdash; looking more like a grandfather enjoying an unbothered retirement in a place where the sun is barely hidden.

  13. Triple Crown: Impossible dream?

After Kentucky Derby winner Orb finished in fourth place at the Preakness, we are on the longest drought ever for a Triple Crown winner (&quot;Lukas kept prediction to himself: Oxbow," May 20). The last time a horse won a Triple Crown was Affirmed in 1978.

  15. Dick Jerardi: Stevens, Lukas still have horse power

    Philadelphia Daily News
BALTIMORE Gary Stevens had been retired for seven years. It seemed like D. Wayne Lukas had been retired for even longer. Stevens, the Hall of Fame jockey, had been on the NBC broadcast team for many of the major races. Lukas, the Hall of Fame trainer,...

  19. Search traffic glancing at Xbox, still focused heavily on the Oklahoma tornado

Amazon's hosting service has been approved for government use, a formerly obscure math lecturer has received hard-won praise for an incredible accomplishment, and Oklahoma City is working to dig out from a devastating tornado. Welcome to your online trends report for Tuesday, May 21, 2013.

  21. Organizers declare the 138th Preakness a success

The numbers alone say the 138th Preakness was a huge success. A crowd of 117,203, the fourth largest in Preakness history, was on hand to see long-shot Oxbow's shocking win and heavy-favorite Orb's disappointing run. And the total handle for the day...

Tear it down. Fix it up. Keep it here. Move it there. Many at Pimlico Race Course Saturday, from celebrated trainers to $2 bettors, offered thoughts of what to do with Old Hilltop, the methuselan home of the 138th Preakness Stakes. The Maryland Jockey...
