In a city famous for its food, making nutritious choices when dining out in New Orleans can be quite a challenge. But making healthy choices doesn’t mean you have to miss out on your favorite restaurants, and it also doesn’t mean you’re relegated to just a dry salad.
Now, Ochsner’s Eat Fit NOLA, a partnership with local restaurants, will help you identify the most nutritious options on the menu!
For the past 13 years, the dietitians at Ochsner’s Elmwood Fitness Center have provided their clients with a guide to the better-for-you options at local restaurants, and now they’re making this information available city-wide, and it’s free!
Eat Fit NOLA officially launches this month, but several restaurants are already on board, including Muriel’s, Commander’s Palace and Café Adelaide. Plus, Ochsner’s Eat Fit Plan by the Fit Gourmet of New Orleans also meets the Eat Fit NOLA criteria.
When you see the Ochsner-approved logo on a participating restaurant’s menu, you’ll know that menu item meets the following criteria:
For an Entrée or Entrée Salad:
Less than 500 calories
Less than 600 mg sodium
Less than 10% of calories from saturated fat
0 grams trans fats
No white, refined carbohydrates
Less than 5 grams (one teaspoon) of added sugar
For an Appetizer, Soup, or Salad:
Less than 300 calories
